Introduction of Egypt Institute Journal (Vol. 1 – Issue 3)

Issue No. 3 of the Egypt Institute Journal, published in July 2016, included a number of political, strategic, economic, intellectual and legal articles, as follows:

1- ‘The Legal Status of the Egyptian Sanafir and Tiran Islands’, by Dr. Mohamed Mahsoub

This study reviews historical agreements and addresses the Tiran and Sanafir islands, refuting a number of legal arguments provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the ruling military coup regime in Egypt after July 2013.

2- ‘Controversy of Security and Terrorism in the Middle East’, by Dr. Samah Hamdi

This study is based on the dualism of security and terrorism in the Qur’an, the concepts of security, terrorism in language and terminology, the Qur’an purposes with respect to the term “terrorism”, reasons for the spread of extremist thought in the Middle East, and how it can be addressed

3- ‘Fundamentalist Introductions to Controlling and Guiding the Revolutionary Work’ by Dr. Wasfi Abu Zaid

The study aims to clarify some introductions to the good jurisprudence. Among the most important of these introductions are: jurisprudence of the Sharia texts and how to understand them, jurisprudence of purposes, jurisprudence of balance of pros and cons, and jurisprudence of prospects.

4- ‘The Revolution and Civilizational Construction to Ibn Khaldun’, by Dr. Essam Abdel Shafy

The study is divided into three topics:

– First: The revolution and civilizational construction to Ibn Khaldun: a conceptual reading.

– Second: The revolution and the mechanisms of political change to Ibn Khaldun.

– Third: The revolution and the problems of civilization to Ibn Khaldun.

5- ‘Islamization of the Modern State: the Case of Saudi Arabia, by Mohamed Affan

The study sheds light on aspects of the Saudi state’s crisis and its relationship to the modern state, on the occasion of the centennial of some of the foundational events of this moment, such as the “Hussein-McMahon Correspondence”, the “Sykes-Picot” accords, and the outbreak of the “Great Arab Revolution”, during the past one hundred years. The study concludes that the authoritarian model of the “Islamic” state established in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been religiously justified by the political ideology of Wahhabism.

6- ‘The Use of Electronic Power in International Interactions: The Case of Al-Qaeda’ by Sabah Abdel-Sabour Abdel-Hay

The study addresses the violent non-state actors’ use of electronic power in international interactions, focusing on the Al-Qaeda organization since 2000, as a case study.
